When do we collect information?
Volkswagen (Ireland) (we, us or our) collect information about you whenever you contact us directly, for instance via this site or if you contact your selected Dealership. Additionally, we are provided with information about you and your vehicle from the network of Volkswagen Dealers and Authorised Service Centres. In each case we will only receive your information where you have indicated that you are happy to hear from us.
Who holds the information?
Any information you provide will be held by us, our Volkswagen Dealers and Authorised Service Centres (the Data Controllers). Some information may also be passed to our Parent Company, Volkswagen AG, for customer satisfaction and for undertaking surveys and questionnaires.
What information do we collect?
1. Personal information
The information we hold about you relates primarily to you and your vehicle. For marketing and analysis purposes, we may from time to time request lifestyle information about you.
2. Technical data
We may collect technical data about the type of Internet browser and computer operating system that you use. This information does not identify you as an individual and is used only for tracking of site use.
We might also place a “cookie" on your hard drive that will help us to identify you when you return to the site and allow us to tailor content to your personal preferences. If you do not wish to use "cookies" you may disable this option in your internet browser settings. "cookies" can be removed from your computer.
For what purpose do we collect this information?
Your information will be held for the purpose of providing you with our products and aftersales services, customer care, safety, recall and Volkswagen Dealership issues. We may also undertake marketing, satisfaction survey and research activities. We may keep your information for a reasonable period for these purposes.
Please note that we are not permitted to transfer data outside the EEA without your permission. Currently, Jersey does not form part of the EEA. If you require our services while you are based in Jersey and you are happy for your information to be transferred to our Volkswagen Dealer based in that Country for the purposes identified above we will require your consent.
Please note that wherever you contact us direct for further information about our products or if you ask for a test drive, we will use your information for that purpose and we may pass your information on to your local or chosen Volkswagen Dealership for that purpose.
Additionally, we our Volkswagen Dealerships and Authorised Service Centres would like to keep you up-to-date on any products and services which may be of interest to you or we may ask you to participate in one of our customer satisfaction surveys. From time to time, we would also like to keep you up to date with any changes to our Authorised Dealership Network. We or they may contact you by mail, telephone, e-mail or other electronic messaging service. If you do not wish your information to be used in this way, please ensure that the appropriate boxes are checked on the Contact Details pages and/or ensure that you tick the boxes on any reply coupon that you submit to us.
Please note that for quality control and training purposes, we may monitor or record your communications with us.
You have the right to ask for a copy of the information held by us in our records in return for payment of a small fee. You also have the right to require us to correct any inaccuracies in your information.
